The Virginia Dept of Emergency Management released its expected snowfall forecast for this weekend. That red blob under the word “Lexington” is where we live. So, um, yeah, I’ll see you guys somewhere around March when this all finally melts. The stores here are already pretty much cleaned out of the basics. Not sure why milk and bread is the snow-apocalyptic food of choice. Here’s my advice - bring your pets inside!!!

Starting Monday, January 5th, I will be opening a limited number of donation-based Reiki sessions. The intention behind this offering is simple and heartfelt: to make Reiki healing more accessible and to pay that healing forward to others.

An energy exchange brings deeper meaning to both the giver and the receiver, and through these sessions you will receive Reiki healing while also helping someone else in need. A donation will be given to a local non-profit organization, with a different organization supported each month—benefiting both people and four-legged friends in our community.

Many practitioners don’t tell their clients what they’ll experience or how to move forward after the session to keep healing. This is where training in coaching is beneficial, but what if the client had an at home guide? That’s where this book/journal was born. Not just blank pages, but tangible guidance. I’m on my third and almost final version with the publisher. It won’t make me rich or anything, but that’s not my purpose here.

Reiki was created, by Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 19th century in Japan. The story goes he was a monk at a Buddhist temple. Many don't know this, but this particular practice believed heavily in the act of suffering as a way to become more enlightened. I don't mean just 'uncomfortable' suffering either. Today it would have been seen as torture. As Dr. Usui was reading through old scrolls he read about channeling a healing practice that was once used. I don't know if we have any actual documentation of this, but the history tells us that he went to a sacred mountain called Mount Kurama, for 21 days of fasting and meditation. It was there that he became a channel for the universal life force energy he coined Reiki. He began teaching it (as a hands on practice) to a select group of people. Over the years the lineage grew and the descendants of his work, taught others. Even today some see this lineage of passed down knowledge as incredibly important. What is energy work? Some people tell me energy work sounds made up or too "woo-woo" for them. However, it is quite real. Your body is energy. Your heart beats every day without being told to based on electrical impulses. It is an energetic engine with many parts that all must work together in order to run efficiently. What do we use to restart a heart? Energy! Your television produces energy. It runs via electricity. Radio waves are energy. A CAT scanner is an energy machine. We use vibration to break up kidney stones, which is energy. Cell phone signals run from an invisible energy field you can't see, (EMF's) and use every day. The sun is a huge ball of energy. Your microwave uses energy to cook food. The original light bulbs weren't actually producing light. They were producing heat, which in turn produced light as a by product. This is energy. Plants contain energy. The earth vibrates at 7.83 Hz.

On a more spiritual level, manifestation is focused energy based on our intentions and beliefs. The chakra's are energy centers in the body. We hear about sound healing and frequency to raise the vibration of our bodies. All of this is energy work. Our bodies vibrate at frequencies producing energy fields all around us. Ever enter a room and 'felt' the tension or negative feelings?

Card Two - Journey, is a great card pull as we are coming to the end of 2025. It speaks to the possibility of upcoming travel plans, but let's not forget the word journey can have many definitions. It could be as simple as a shift in location or larger in purpose, such as physically moving or changing jobs. I feel that this card is also about our personal journey. 2026 might be a year for many new things coming to fruition. A class, a job, a trip, meeting someone new, making new friends, or diving deep within ourselves with spiritual advancement. New Year's, always brings thoughts of what we want to change about ourselves. Often it's external. Let's not forget to ask ourselves what we want to improve inside too. Maybe we are overwhelmed at work and need to set boundaries. Many of us feel responsible for handling everything. Working, chores, raising children, doctors appointments, homework tutor, chauffer, party planner, and of course, therapist to all. This leaves us no time for ourselves. You can't pour from an empty cup.

As you are making your lists of upcoming to-do's this week, ask if you can delegate some of it to someone else. Maybe your title isn't leader or director, but many of us are. Were just putting it all on our shoulders. Let go of some of that need to control the outcome in order to gain some freedom in your life. And here is the final tip.
