Integrated Energy Therapy®: What It Is, How It Works, and What to Expect at Studio Reiki

A gentle, heart-centered approach to releasing limiting energy patterns and reconnecting with the life you are meant to live.

I’m excited to share a new addition to Studio Reiki: Integrated Energy Therapy® (IET®).

After completing my Advanced IET training, I’m honored to now offer this beautiful modality alongside Reiki and the other energy-healing practices at Studio Reiki.

But before I tell you what an IET session feels like, I want to explain what IET actually is—and why the integrity of this particular practice matters to me.

There is a lot of information online about energy healing, and not all of it accurately represents IET. Integrated Energy Therapy® is a specific, structured energy therapy system with its own lineage, training requirements, techniques, practitioner standards, and certification process.

So let’s start at the beginning.

You will learn what IET is, what it is designed to support, who it may help, what a typical session looks like, how long it takes, and how to book.

What my new Integrated Energy Therapy certifications mean

My new certifications in basic, intermediate, and advanced instruction, mean I have completed formal training in the principles, techniques, and session structure of Integrated Energy Therapy, often called IET up to the advanced level. These courses can only be taught by approved IET Master Instructors. This training gives me a clear, repeatable method for offering sessions in a safe, respectful, and supportive way.

Certification matters because energy work is not just about intuition. Intuition is part of the process, but a good session also needs structure, consent, ethics, and care. Through IET training, practitioners learn specific hand placements, energy points, client communication, and ways to create a session that feels grounded rather than vague.

For clients, this means you are not walking into a random experience. You are receiving a session based on a recognized healing modality with a thoughtful process behind it.

My role in an IET session is to hold a calm, compassionate space and support the body’s natural ability to release, receive, and reconnect. I do not diagnose, prescribe, or promise cures. IET is a complementary wellness practice, not a replacement for medical care, therapy, or mental health support.

What Is Integrated Energy Therapy®?

Integrated Energy Therapy® is an attunement-based energy therapy system developed by Stevan J. Thayer through the Center of Being, Inc.

IET is often described using the phrase “getting the issues out of your tissues.” Within the IET system, the practice works with the violet angelic energy ray and what IET describes as the 12-Strand Spiritual DNA. The system is designed to help gently release limiting energy patterns associated with the past, support greater balance in the present, and help individuals move toward their future and their soul’s purpose.

The word Integrated is intentional. IET describes its philosophy as integrating experiences of the past into the power of the present so that we can move toward the joy of the future.

At its heart, IET is about self-healing, empowerment, and transformation.

The official IET mission is beautifully simple:

“Heal the world one-heart-at-a-time.”

Origins of Integrated Energy Therapy (IET)

Integrated Energy Therapy was developed by Stevan J. Thayer, founder of the Center of Being, Inc.

Stevan began teaching IET in 1994, and over the years the system developed into a structured progression of practitioner and instructor training. Today, the IET community includes more than 40,000 students worldwide.

The Center of Being, Inc. owns the IET system and maintains the standards surrounding its practitioner and instructor training.

That structure is one of the reasons I was drawn to IET.

Integrity matters.

I believe deeply that energy work should be practiced with respect—for the client, for the modality, for the teacher who developed it, and for the traditions and training that make the practice what it is.

IET has established practitioner and instructor standards that emphasize professionalism, compassion, confidentiality, client autonomy, safe boundaries, and practicing within the practitioner's level of training and credentials.

IET certification is also not simply an online course or a certificate someone can download.

The Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced practitioner trainings include in-person attunement and hands-on practice, and the official IET system requires instructors to use current training materials and follow established teaching guidelines.

I appreciate that structure because it reflects something I already believe strongly at Studio Reiki:

Energy work should be approached with both heart and integrity.

I am an Advanced Integrated Energy Therapy® Practitioner, and I practice within the scope of that training. I am not an IET Master-Instructor, and I do not teach IET certification classes.

IET is not about forcing a breakthrough. It is about creating enough safety and stillness for release to happen naturally.

What does IET do?

IET works with what the system describes as cellular memory and the human energy field, using specific techniques to identify and release limiting energy patterns and replace them with positive, empowering energy imprints.

The different levels of IET build progressively.

Basic IET focuses on physical and emotional energy blockages associated with cellular memory.

Intermediate IET expands the work into physical, emotional, mental, and karmic energy imprints within the human energy field.

Advanced IET builds upon those levels and focuses on helping you connect with your soul's mission, your life vision, and the energetic patterns that may be standing between where you are and where you want to go.

Rather than thinking of IET as something being done to you, I prefer to think of it as a process in which you are an active participant in your own healing and transformation.

The practitioner facilitates the energy and holds a safe, supportive space. Your own self-healing process remains your own.

The IET Practitioner Code of Ethics specifically recognizes self-healing as a personal and individualized process and emphasizes that the practitioner supports rather than controls that process.

IET sessions use gentle hand placements or hands held just above the body.

Who is Integrated Energy Therapy for?

IET may be a beautiful complement for people who feel ready to explore the emotional and energetic patterns they have been carrying.

You may be drawn to IET if you:

  • Feel stuck in repetitive emotional or energetic patterns

  • Are moving through a major life transition

  • Feel disconnected from yourself or your sense of purpose

  • Want to release patterns that no longer serve you

  • Are interested in exploring your spiritual growth

  • Feel called to deeper self-awareness

  • Want support reconnecting with your own inner wisdom

  • Are working alongside other forms of personal growth, coaching, Reiki, or traditional care

  • Simply feel that something within you is ready for a shift

IET is also specifically described within its practitioner standards as a complementary energy therapy that may be used alongside conventional medicine or other modalities. It is not intended to replace medical or mental-health care, and IET practitioners do not make medical claims about its outcomes.

You don't have to arrive with a particular belief system, either.

You can simply arrive curious.

What a typical IET session looks like

Your first session begins with conversation.

We'll talk about what is happening in your life, what you'd like to focus on, and what you hope to receive from your session. Together, we'll establish an intention for the work.

Then you'll get comfortable on the treatment table fully clothed.

IET sessions use gentle therapeutic touch at specific areas associated with the body's cellular memory and human energy field. The practitioner follows the specific IET techniques appropriate to the level of work being provided.

The environment is quiet, comfortable, and supportive, allowing you to relax and become receptive to the experience.

You may experience physical sensations, emotions, memories, imagery, shifts in awareness, relaxation, or simply a sense of stillness.

And you may not experience anything dramatic at all.

There is no “right” way to experience an IET session.

Your experience belongs to you.

At the end of the session, we'll take some time to reconnect, ground, and talk about anything you'd like to share.

Quiet reflection after a session can help you notice what has shifted.

How long does a session take?

The official IET session information states that session length can vary from approximately 60–120 minutes, depending on the level and type of IET session being received.

At Studio Reiki, I allow enough time for our opening conversation, the energy work itself, and time afterward to integrate the experience rather than rushing you out the door.

I believe the integration afterward is part of the experience.

How Should I Prepare for an IET Session?

You don't need to do anything complicated.

Come comfortably.

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to relax while lying fully clothed on the treatment table.

Drink water.

The IET session guidance recommends drinking plenty of pure water before and after your session to stay hydrated.

Come with an intention—but don't force an outcome.

You may already know exactly what you'd like to work on. Perhaps it's an emotional pattern, a relationship, a transition, a feeling of being stuck, or simply a desire to reconnect with yourself.

That's wonderful.

But you don't have to arrive with everything figured out.

Sometimes the most powerful intention is simply:

“I am open to whatever I am ready to release and receive.”

Give yourself some space afterward.

If possible, avoid scheduling yourself immediately into a hectic afternoon.

Give yourself a little room to breathe, reflect, drink some water, and notice what you experience.

The official IET materials note that people can respond differently after a session. Some people report feeling relaxed, refreshed, or lighter immediately, while others may feel tired afterward before returning to a more refreshed feeling over the following days.

Your experience is your own.

IET and Reiki: What's the Difference?

Because Reiki is such an important part of my work at Studio Reiki, you may be wondering how IET differs from Reiki.

Both are energy-based practices, but they are not the same modality.

Reiki is traditionally understood as a practice of channeling Reiki energy to support relaxation, balance, and the body's natural healing process.

IET has its own specific framework, energy ray, techniques, attunements, cellular-memory work, and progression through Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced levels.

For me, the beauty is that they don't have to compete with one another.

They can complement one another.

Depending on what you're seeking, we can explore whether Reiki, IET, Spiritual Coaching, or a combination of modalities feels most supportive for you.

Why I Added IET to Studio Reiki

My work has always been about more than simply helping someone relax for an hour.

I want Studio Reiki to be a place where you can slow down enough to listen to yourself.

A place where you can explore the emotional and energetic patterns you've carried.

A place where you can reconnect with your own wisdom, intuition, purpose, and power.

IET feels beautifully aligned with that vision.

It offers another pathway for exploring the connection between our experiences, our energy, our emotions, and the way we move forward in life.

And perhaps most importantly, IET doesn't position the practitioner as the person who “fixes” you.

You are not broken.

You are the one doing the healing.

My role is to create a safe space, facilitate the work, and support you as you move through your own process.

That is something I believe very deeply.

A New Chapter for Studio Reiki

Completing my Advanced IET training is more than simply adding another certification to my list.

It feels like another piece of the larger picture I've been building through Studio Reiki—bringing together Reiki, energy healing, spiritual coaching, nervous-system awareness, and transformational work in a way that supports the whole person.

If you've been feeling that quiet inner nudge that something is ready to change, perhaps IET is a modality you've been looking for.

You don't have to know exactly what needs to change.

You don't have to have the perfect intention.

You simply have to be willing to begin.

Release what no longer serves you.

Reconnect with who you are.

Make space for who you are becoming.

That is where the work begins.

How to book an IET session

Booking is simple. If you are interested in scheduling, reach out through the regular booking or contact method you use with me. If online scheduling is available, choose the Integrated Energy Therapy session option and select the time that works best for you.

When you book, you may be asked to share a little about why you are coming in. This does not need to be detailed. A sentence or two is enough.

You can write something like:

  • “I’ve been feeling overwhelmed and would like support.”

  • “I’m curious about IET and want to try a first session.”

  • “I’m moving through a transition and want energetic support.”

  • “I’d like help releasing emotional heaviness.”

If you have questions before booking, send them. It is completely okay to ask about touch, session length, distance options, what to expect, or whether IET feels like a good match for your current needs.

For your first session, I suggest choosing a time when you do not need to rush immediately afterward. The session itself matters, but the quiet space after it can be just as valuable.

A gentle next step

I am grateful to bring this new certification into my work and to offer Integrated Energy Therapy as a supportive option for anyone feeling called to energy healing.

IET is gentle, reflective, and deeply personal. It can offer a space to release what feels heavy, reconnect with your heart, and return to yourself with more ease. Some people come with a clear intention. Others come because they are tired, tender, curious, or ready for something to shift.

If you feel drawn to this work, trust that curiosity. Booking a session can be a simple first step toward rest, clarity, and energetic support.
